    Mission to Mexico 2008

    Gulf Coast Christian Center

    February 2-9, 20008

Sixteen missionaries participated on a mission trip to Texas and Mexico, including 7 teenagers. We also had a representative from B.C. Rain high school and Melanie Lewis’ Spanish class. This was the first mission trip abroad for most of the team.  One of the blessing of these mission trips is to introduce American young people to other cultures and to allow them to experience God working through them.  On this trip, our young people learned how much God loves them as well as how much God loves the people of Mexico.

The first two days were taken up traveling from Mobile to La Feria Texas.  We arrived in La Feria on a Sunday evening, and ministered in Brother Frank Gonzale’s church.  Apostle Richey had a powerful word for the church and the team ministered through prayer and prophecy to many in the church.  One young lady that Pastor David had a special word for was Michelle, whose mother was in the hospital.  Several of the ladies in our group had ministered to the mother, Janie, last year so the Lord began to strengthen our ties to the family immediately.  We didn’t know how important this would be until the next day when Brother Frank received word that Janie had passed away early Monday morning.  This was of course a shock to both the local church and to our mission group and changed many of our plans for the week.

One of the special blessings of the week was that the teenage girls in our group were able to spend time with and minister to Michelle, who is not much older that they are.  It was a great comfort to Michelle to have other Godly teenage girls around her to help her through her time of grief.  It was also an encouragement to our girls to see how God could use them to touch the heart of another teen.

While we were waiting for the funeral plans to be completed, our team had some good time to fellowship, pray and help out around the camp.  Pastor David was invited to preach a salvation message at the funeral on Tuesday night, and there was a tremendous response.  Brother Frank counted about 30 hands that went up to accept Christ, including two close family members who came to church the next night to commit their lives to the Lord.

Our group experienced some other obstacles in addition to the schedule changes due to the funeral, which included some problems with border security and a flat tire.  On Thursday we were finally able to minister in the church in Monterrey.  Apostle Richey had a tremendous word for Apostle Candelario Martinez and his church and for the Mexican people, which will encourage them and empower them to continuing to work together to win Mexico and all the Latin American nations to Christ.

It was Friday when we finally got to the ranch in the mountains above Linares and to the orphanage.  We ministered to several local pastors from that area and encouraged them in their work for the Lord.  That afternoon, we delivered supplies to the orphanage and spent time fellowshipping with the children.  They are always excited to have visitors, and our teenagers were reluctant to leave.  The offerings and supplies that we gave to the orphanage will supply their needs for at least a month, so this trip was a great blessing to them. On Saturday, we returned to Mobile, rejoicing in all that the Lord had done.

We wish to thank our many supporters, without which this trip would not have been possible.  First of all, we thank the prayer warriors of GCCC who provided spiritual cover for the trip and paved the way to the Lord to deliver us through many perilous circumstances.  Special thanks are due to Vivian Figures, Ralph and Gloria LeBlanc, Peter Perez and B.C. Rain high school that all donated scholarship funds to help the teenagers go on the trip. We also thank Melanie Lewis’ Spanish class at B.C. Rain that collected a large amount of supplies that we were able to deliver to the orphanage. Davis Pilot is due special blessings from the Lord because he provided us the RV, with fuel for the voyage.  Thanks Davis and all of our other supporters who are due a rich reward in heaven.

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. “ James 1:27 NIV

    Mission to Mexico 2007

From February 17 to 27, 2007, 10 missionaries from Gulf Coast Christian Center ventured from home in Mobile, Alabama to minister in Laferia, Texas, Monterrey Mexico and Linares Mexico.  For four of these, it was their first mission trip, which is always a memorable occasion.  Some of the others are seasoned missionary travelers, but all contributed their gifts to the work of the ministry during this trip.

If the impact of a mission trip can be measured by the opposition, then this was one of the most important trips that I have taken.  Starting off near the beginning of the trip, our dancer fell down the stairs and had to dance with a very sore back and leg; our singer had a sore throat and asthma attacks, but managed to sing when called upon none the less.  Before we were done two had to go the hospital, two had to go to the dentist for broken teeth, our athlete twisted his ankle and missed some ball games upon returning, and several had colds and bronchitis. None of this has dampened the enthusiasm of these missionaries to declare the Kingdom of God to central Mexico!  If the devil has to pester us with these minor tribulations, then we know that we are encroaching on his territory and that the word of the Kingdom is going forth!

Out first stop was in Laferia Texas, where we participated in Brother Frank Gonzalez’s church on Sunday.  We were able to minister in the morning service and were blessed by fellowshipping with their people all that day.

On Monday, we crossed over into Mexico and headed to Monterrey, where we ministered to Pastor Candelerio’s church.  Three of us were able to teach, declare the kingdom, and preach the word at this church, and part of the group ministered to the young people  with puppets as well.  Everywhere we went, the young people were excited to learn to praise the Lord in dance (even though our dance teacher had fallen down staires!)

We also had some good fellowship with brother Candelerio, who took us to see the sights of Monterrey.  Of great interest to our group, was a special exhibit at the historical museum, which described the role of Africans in the history of Mexico.  Though not commonly taught in the history books, several prominent men and women in Mexican history were black.  Pastor Candelerio is a good brother with an apostolic vision for Mexico that will be a good partner for us as we continue to work in Mexico.

On Wednesday, we headed up the mountains to the ranch.  This is Janie Gonzalez’s home, and her dear parents, though in their 80s, still minister to the people in the surrounding mountains.  At their church we improved their dormitory by building a wall, adding some lights and repairing and painting the rest rooms.  This will provide a better facility for future missionaries to use while ministering to the surrounding churches.  We also participated in their Wednesday night service, and were able to pray for many people.

On Thursday, we delivered supplies to the orphanage and ministered to the children.  It was a great blessing to watch our teenage boys teaching them to play American football.  All had a great time.  The children their also enjoyed learning to dance and asked for the CD so they could continue to practice.

On Friday, we met for prayer back in Texas as Brother Frank’s church.  We prayed as a group for awhile, and then our missionaries prayed for all of the members of the church that were in attendance.  I don’t have words to express how proud I was of our teenage boys, as they pitched in and prayed for the young people of the church.  They did a wonderful job and all in the church were blessed.

On Saturday, we made the long journey back home to Mobile, but our mission really was not complete as many of us struggled with various trials and illnesses for the next week.  All of those trials, though, just served to remind us to pray for the people of Mexico, and for the next trip, when we can continue to expand the Kingdom of God in Mexico.

  • We returned from Mexicon last Saturday.  This time, we took a group of 10 to Monterrey and Linares Mexico.  It was a great trip, and I will be posting a more complete trip report later.  In the meantime, pray for our group.  Since we have returned, 2 have had to go to the hospital, 2 to the dentist with broken teeth, and several have colds and other more minor ailments.  We must have stirred up some devils in Mexico, so praise God!
